Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros

overview

The Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros has only one horn, unlike the White rhino which has two.  This horn can grow to be as long as 61 cm.  Their hides are hairless and have thick folds of skin that resemble plates of armour.  Except for females with their young, rhino are mostly solitary.  Adult males will loosely defend a territory by marking it with dung piles up to one metre in height.
