Common Questions

How can you tell the giraffe apart?

Each giraffe has a unique set of spots, and like our fingerprints, can be used to identify individuals. Similar to humans, each giraffe has it’s own personality – which makes them easier to identify for our staff!

Can we feed the giraffe?

Join us on our exclusive experience, Wake Up The Wild (link to page), for an opportunity to hand feed our herd of giraffe!

What are the bumps on top of their head?

The 5 blunt horned structures on the head are called ossicones; a structure derived from ossified cartilage and remains covered with skin and fur – unlike a horn or antler! There are two larger and more obvious ones at the top of the head which are common among all giraffe, however, the Rothschild species also has one on the forehead and two behind the ears.
